Key Points

  • Redwire reported Q3 2026 financial results yesterday after the market closed.

  • In addition to growing sales on a year-over-year basis, the company also grew its backlog.

  • Those interested in exposure to the burgeoning space industry have a great buying opportunity today.

Reporting third-quarter 2026 financial results after the market closed yesterday, Redwire (NYSE:RDW) gave investors plenty to celebrate. The market, however, seems much more focused on the report’s weaknesses, resulting in the space stock plunging.

As of 1:10 p.m. ET, Redwire shares are down 20.8%.

Revenue of $109 million failed to impress investors

Growing the top line 5.4% year-over-year, Redwire reported Q3 2026 sales of $109 million. Analysts, however, had anticipated the company reporting revenue of $135.8 million.

The bottom of the income statement raised another concern. Redwire reported Q3 2026 adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) of negative $5.3 million — a steeper loss than the negative $2.6 million it reported during the same period last year.

While the company’s adjusted EBITDA declined, Redwire succeeded in one respect regarding profitability: it expanded its gross margin to a record 32.3% in Q3 2026, up from 16.3% in Q3 2025.

In terms of future business, Redwire grew its backlog to a record $619.7 million as of Sept. 30, 2026.

From solar panels for small satellites to fuel cells for freight rail, Redwire specializes in a range of power solutions for aerospace and defense applications.

Is Redwire stock a red-hot buying opportunity now?

While some investors may find Redwire’s failure to meet analysts’ Q3 2026 revenue expectations disappointing, it’s a bit of an overreaction to trim — or exit, altogether — their positions on this report. The company’s gross margin expansion is encouraging, and the backlog growth is an auspicious sign that the future remains bright for the space stock. Today’s sell-off provides a great buying opportunity for patient investors with the stomachs to ride out the volatility.
